Diabetes Now A Major Health Risk

A new study released recently has targeted diabete as a major future health risk for New Zealanders.

According to the study, out of 4800 New Zealanders aged over 15 studied, nearly one in five had pre-diabetic conditions.

In typical fashion the MPs involved in the Parlimentry discussion degenerated into namecalling and blame shifting and basically saying the reason was because of the major increase of risk was because the funding had been diverted to one of the other of the main 6 targets set for the public health system.

Get The Rope, There's a Lynchin Goin On

In 'Merica today there is a feeding frenzy over an 18 year old having sex with a 15 year old girl.  Now both parties have admitted it and they had even told both set of parents several months ago.  Suddenly there is an uproar.

Life is about choices right? And parents need to instill this into their children so the children learn to make good choices with good outcomes right?

The Return Of Dr. Death

Today's Doozy is quite the dilema, I see in Vermont America - where else - they have voted to allow assisted suicide.

That opens up a real can of worms doesn't it?  On one hand I wouldn't like to be lying in a hospital bed as a vegetable day in and day out if there was really no hope of recovery, on the other hand if I couldn't speak or move, how can you be really sure I was giving my consent, being of sane mind and all those things......?

Take this job and shove it, I ain't workin here no more.

So apparently they need a study to show that over half of New Zealanders are sick of their job and would LOVE to be in another job A.S.A.P.

Really? That's news?

Hello! Monique here. I saw an advert on TV this morning about tablets you can take to boost collagen production which helps your skin look younger and make your hair shinier. But I wondered if there are natural ways to do this? Here's what I found:

Collagen is a protein that combines with keratin and elastin to make your skin strong and elastic. As you age, the production of collagen in your body also slows down. This results to the aging of the skin, which is characterized by signs like thinning, wrinkles, lines, age spots and dullness. When this aging process begins, most women seek solutions in the form of beauty products–jars of cream, tubes of gel, bottles of lotions and the like. Even though some of these products work, most of them don’t.

If you wish to preserve your youth by buying products that claim to contain collagen, you’re better off saving your money. Collagen simply cannot enter the body throughyour skin. Instead, it needs to be produced inside the body. Here are some foods that you might want to add to your diet if you wish to boost your collagen production.

So I was reading an interesting article on Huffington Post today which I found enlightening. Had someone in your life who has given you a bit of grief? This is worth a read....

Sociopath Signs: Is Your Ex A Sociopath Or A Narcissist?   Written by Cindy Holbrook

As a divorce coach, it's something I hear often: a recently divorced woman will talk about her ex and scathingly describe him as a "sociopath" or a "narcissist." While it may bring her a sense of justification by labeling her ex, what does she really gain from playing the victim in her divorce? Many people, both men and women, experience a range of emotions when they are going through a divorce. They act out in ways that are not aligned with their innate personalities. They act this way out of revenge, anger and pain. And the act of name-calling may be a way to relieve these feelings.

So is your ex really a sociopath or a narcissist? Or is he just acting out? Many skilled divorce coaches agree that a person will take on these personality traits during stressful life changes and then revert back to normal once the stress is gone.

It was a humbling and shocking experience to read Lori Gottlieb’s new book, Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough—but I’m so glad I did. Gottlieb is a single mother who, at 37, wanted a biological child and had one on her own. She wrote a story in the Atlantic about being a single mom trying to date; based on that article, her new book takes a deeper look at modern relationships and dating. Now, before you get all up in her face about her controversial title, let’s get something straight here…

“There’s a big difference between compromising and settling,” Gottlieb told me over the phone. “I don’t want the takeaway to be, pick the next guy off of Match.com and marry him. I’m saying, you don’t have to do anything differently if you don’t want. But if you feel like it hasn’t been working and you’re wondering why you haven’t met Mr. Right yet, think about looking for the qualities that are important. You can find someone you’ll be really happy with and fall totally in love with. These guys are all around you but you’re not giving them a chance. You could be passing up tons of Mr. Rights. And you’re going out with all the Mr. Wrongs. It’s less about what you wear or do on a date than it is about having healthier standards. You can still have the fairy tale, but it will look different from what the media portrays as the fairy tale.…The same unrealistic expectations we have about dating, we have about marriage, too. Married people have said that this book makes them appreciate their husbands more.”

Here’s what many single women do that we might want to reconsider:

DATING 101
When you’re single, dating is a must in order to meet new people so you can find the right person to share a relationship with. While dating can be fun, it can also have its ups and downs. Whether you are going out and finding a date yourself, being set up on a blind date by friends or are using an online dating service, there are certain key dating points you should know in order to have the best experience ever. Here are a few dating tips for singles.

DOS AND DON’TS FOR SINGLES DATING
Do be safe when you are meeting someone for the first time, whether you were set up by friends or met online. Plan to meet at a public location and have your own transportation so you don’t have to rely on your date. Don’t give out too much personal information on the first date, like your address, phone number or where you work. And definitely don’t go to a private place with your date. The first date is a time to get to know each other better, so don’t rush into anything too personal until you feel comfortable with the person.

Don’t monopolize the entire conversation on the first date. It’s great to exchange bits of information about each other, like favorite hobbies, what kind of work you do or what foods you like. Just don’t have a one-sided dialogue all about you and leave the other person out. Ask your date questions and talk a little about yourself. Make sure the conversation is a two-sided discussion.

I Wanna Be A Social Worker (I got a dirty secret though)

So what's the best the best way I can follow my chosen career choice of caring for others, maybe counselling some families, making the world a better place.  Oh yeah that's right.  Leave my kids in the carpark for a couple of hours locked up in a van while I gamble at Skycity.

And when I'm charged for obvious neglect, get let off coz then I can't follow my dream of becoming a social worker. Boo Hoo Hoo, poor me.  Except I hope you realise it wasn't actually me, just some caring mother that got sprung um, not caring.

I wanna Get Real Sick Then Real Rich

Apparently the circus was in session today instead of the court.  It appears that proceedings were halted so a report could be done on whether a medical condition was responsible for a former policeman stealing a whole wad of cash out of a safe then going on a bender.

Man, I wanna get me that ailment coz I wanna get rich the easy way.

Snake Eyes on A Pair Of Dice Or Maybe That's Paradise

Anyone who knows Kiwi music will be familiar with the Dragon song "April Sun In Cuba".  What's this to do with today's doozy, probably not a lot but I just noticed there's a lot of snakes around.  And while I thought the SFO was there to help us and flush them out it seems they are really just there to help the snakes to their own slice of paradise.

Scratch that, it's everybody else's slice of paradise they are helping themselves to.

Well, my hair has been the bane of my life.  I started colouring it when I was 12 as being partly 'polynesian' my genetic history has a pre-disposition to grey hair! I started with semi permanents and then tried other options like Henna and even tea bags!  Later on in my teens, I went for the heavy duty colouring and it was permanent all the way!!  I have had jet black hair for the last 10 years, have been red, accidentally flouro and a bunch of different colours, but never blonde! On re-discovering my natural colour to be dark blonde, I wondered what it would be like go all the way.....

I started out with 5 boxes of Jo-Baz colour remover that I got from the supermarket. It retails for $39.95 - but I saw a promo online whereby if you used their product and did a before and after shot and sent it to them, they sent you a free box - so I ended up winning one box free.  Each box provided roughly 2 treatments and it is pretty time intensive, but my hair totally loved it. The product definitely improved the shine and overall conditioning of my hair as I used it.  WARNING: it did make my hair stink like eggs, but the overall result was totally worth it!!!

As part of my journey, I was also used as a hair model for a full head of foils at Servilles Training Academy on Queen St in Auckland City (a treatment worth about $300 for free!!) which certainly lightened my hair and today, I used a voucher from Treat Me which gave me a half head of foils, hair cut and straightening for $69.  Great value!!  Because of the length of my hair and the bleaching I paid a little extra on top of this, but the results I think were totally worth it.  It's still a work in progress, but here's some of the images for you to check out as I'm going through my transformation from Black to Blonde. It's a long and lengthy journey but i'm loving each stage and seeing the metamorphosis and how it changes my skin tones and my eye colour!!  WOW!!!!  Thanks today from Sandra at The Room on Dominion Road. You were totally amazing!!!!!!!  Check out the pics and let me know your thoughts!!
