So, I had the most amazing experience today.....

Pete Ward and I have been looking at the best way to expand the video production side of our business by purchasing a quality HD camera.  We tried several outlets all offering us great prices and add ons as an incentive to buy and yet when it came time to purchase, something would go wrong. The salesperson would try to find the stock only to discover there was none.  OR - and this was a funny one - we had an offer made and weren't sure, so said we would pop away for 15 mins to get a coffee and mull over the decision. By the time we got back, the last camera was sold.

I decided it was a sign - we even discussed that it was all a bit too hard and had that sick feeling in our stomachs that the purchase just didn't sit right with either of us.  Pete kept researching and discovered other places selling what we thought was the best camera, but even then, we still had a couple of reservations.  Was it going to deliver the sound quality we were after? Would it do what we needed it to do? It seemed there were so many questions unanswered and considering the amount of money required for the investment, was it going to pay off financially? I needed answers.

The Daily Doozy

Do as We Say, Don't Do As We Do

It's a serious tone doozy today.

So, today, I see an article about "legal highs" and teenagers and truancy and suicides, I gotta read this, there's this young fella, 15 now, started smoking dope at 11 or 12, couldn't afford it any more so started smoking legal highs.

And after knowing full well he was stuffing up his life, got off the legal highs, and back on to - you guessed it, marijuana, because he sees it as a "safe drug and a social tool"

Baby You Can Drive My Car, Do do do do do, Yes I'm Gonna Be A Star

Today we decided to use the bus pass that arrived in the mail for a free trip into the city from the North Shore and return from the good people at Auckland Transport.  So bearing in mind that this pass is all about the Northern Busway that the Auckland ratepayers spent over $33 million dollars on a few years ago, we thought it was worth the risk and we named it "Adventure Day" as we thought "why not head into town, grab a train and look around Auckland, Thanks Len, you da man".

Well, let me tell you, it was a disaster, from the word go.  Turns out, the pass is only for the Northern Busway so you must use only the stations on the busway, not connecting suburbs and as we are so close and surely as "they", Auckland Transport want us to get out of cars and onto the bus, and having spent that $33 million dollars, we thought we would just use our local Akoranga station and nip over the bridge in a jiffy.  So we drove there knowing it was as simple as parking and riding.

Think again people, think again.  5 hours later (including the train trip) we made it home, we have made a video of the complete adventure and will be uploading it asap.  Considering we were using it for the first time, we encountered all kinds of system breakdowns, imagine if we had a language barrier, were disabled or were tourists? We wouldn't have stood a chance.

The Gay Rainbow Speech from NZ Politician Maurice Williamson.  Basically the gist of it all is there is nothing that is going to change for people who are not gay when the bill passes to allow gay marriage (hint - it passed).

I'm straight, have 4 children (soon to be divorced) and I can already see there will be no breakdown of societies fabric, that families are about the love and connection you have with children as individuals. Look at adopted children that feel loved in a successful family environment, this is no different.

Call the fun police, it's an emergency.

So I needed a couple of days off the daily doozy, been so busy, bla bla bla, sorry about that but I'm back.

Today, I am concerned with my childhood, the one where I used to bike 20 minutes *gasp* by myself, on a main road *gasp* by myself, to the beach *gasp* by myself, go swimming *gasp* by myself for half a day, bike home *gasp* by myself and I made it in one piece.

Today I read that the second most complained about ad on TV in New Zealand is a boy who - and let me get this straight - jumps into a river to swim with *gasp* no parental supervision.  Oh. My. God., that is the worst thing that can ever happen, quick call the fun police, shut that down, some kid is having fun with out a parent watching, O.M.G. and they are showing it on the television box.

Next Stop Hollywood - Or Bam Bam You're Dead

So there is this lady right, Patricia Maisch and she's at this meeting right, and some guy starts killing right, 6 dead, 14 wounded (this is real). So what does she do, she thinks to herself "what would Chuck Norris do?"

Yep, she jumps the shooter along with another guy and she steals the third clip he's trying to load into the gun. So he has no ammo.  She is a HERO.

And today she was in the US Senate to be rewarded for the bravery, uh uh uh, no, she got arrested.  Why I hear you ask?

A Look At Self Image and Self Worth

Here's an amazing video posted on youtube by DOVE.

Yes I know it's an advertisement, yes I know women are the target market but yes I really think everyone should watch this and take away a lesson, hopefully along the lines that we are actually more attractive people than we give ourselves credit for and we should all lighten up on ourselves.

In it, they use a graphic artist to draw 2 people describing the same 1 person.  He never sees them and the results are startling.

Go Directly To Jail, Do not Collect $200, Wait No Don't Go To Jail

So we are having some Judges do a review of Judges at the moment to see if they be judging us good.  Apart from the obvious "fox guarding the henhouse" jokes I could make, this is probably a good idea, just to help us, the public, know that we are in good hands if:

A. We should ever be wrongly accused of something and

B. if the scum of the earth that really did it need to be put away for life.

Not The Daily Doozy

Or What Is Going On In The World

Out of respect for the casualties today in Boston, USA, I would like to pay my respects by not pushing the boundaries and publishing a Daily Doozy.

I just find it rather curious that Both New Zealand Prime Minister and the Australian Prime Minister are on about "WMD" Weapons of mass destruction and the link to terrorists for the 2 days right before a major incident in America that will no doubt result in a lockdown of normal citizens rights and freedoms based on fear even here in NZ with the idea that the Government needs to spy on us.

I See You've Met The Twins?

So, a new study has been released, I don't know if you've seen it - get it - seen it? no? -  you will get it soon if you carry on reading.

Apparently the "bra" has been labelled a "false necessity" by a newly released - get it, released? no? - study over 15 years.

Without mentioning size, 300 women were studied over these 15 years to determine the effects of gravity and other things and apparently according to the findings the muscles degrade if they are not supporting due to a bra supposedly doing all their work for them.

Look Ma, I'm on the Telly

Apparently there is a new film coming that is being made in Christchurch, HOPE AND WIRE, funny enough it's about the earthquake(s).

While I support New Zealand's film industry and being in media myself, I thought it was pretty cool, until I read it is being funded with $5 million dollars of taxpayer money.

Wow, $5M to pretend to shake a few buildings and have a few people scream here and there - while actual people in CHCH are still suffering with no houses, schools closing, infrastructure a long way from being fixed, I'm sure some people don't have working inside toilets after 2 years, EQC botching up everything and NZ on Air is giving away, and I say it again - $5 million dollars.  I wonder if they sat in a high backed chair stroking an ugly cat and put their pinky's to the side of their mouths when they announced in an evil voice "5 million dollars".

This Hospital Food Is Making Me Sick Ma.

Estimations are being floated around that the Government can save around $10 million a year by outsourcing the hospital grub, and they swear by hokie that they will return this money saved into, and I quote "frontline services".  Does that mean everyone in hospital will get given a petrol voucher or perhaps a lotto ticket?  Maybe they actually mean PAY THE NURSES PROPER.

And meanwhile they - the Government - can find $30 million to sweet talk a foreign owned power company (that means basically give them the money) because they are not making quite enough profit yet despite it being the GDP of a small country.

That's a Doozy

what is it about corporations that they all seem to believe they are owed money.

So, this is just me whinging. I know that. But still.  I also know many of you don't live in a semi commercial area.

But come on.

The night before last night the big council trucks were here in the middle of the night, painting the roads, last night the're here blasting the paint off the roads and re-painting them.  And they are freaking loud.

Just a lighthearted doozy has been awarded today.  I see the following 3 headlines 1 after another and I wonder who it is that can't make up their minds? The newspaper editors or the politicians.

2. NZ PM says more Chinese investment will happen

The Daily Doozy

I was going to take the weekends off the Daily Doozy until I read about this guy.

Nicholas Beattie.

I know the media always slants the story to make it sensational but still....

He buys a car, turns out it was stolen, oh yeah, by a gang. So they do what any law abiding family/whanau based caring gang would do... they beat the crap out of him with a metal bar, and again for good measure.

To Drink Or Not To Drink, That Is The Question?

So let me get this straight, there's a new study released suggesting that rugby fans drink too much, I wonder how they worked that out, maybe they stood at the gate after a game and watched them stumble out.  I wonder if they also followed them into town and watched their antics up and down Queen st, in burger joints and carparks etc.

And who paid for this study, it better not have been the NZ public coz we should demand our money back.  Talk about stating the obvious.

And what do we want to do about this issue anyway, hey I know, why not spend some more money on "education". i.e. lets put some ads on the telly and in some magazines that suggest they are drinking too much and should maybe stop.  Isn't that a great idea.

Runner Up Doozy

So the runner up today must be John Key, let me get this straight:

he forgot they were childhood friends, he forgot they used to meet for meals, he forgot about ringing his mate saying come work for me and then forgot that others on the shortlist got told "don't worry about coming for an interview, we've already made up our minds"?

That's a doozy.
